Two women sit at a corner table
at a restaurant in the middle of nowhere
One gets up and leaves well; the other stays there
mascara running down her face
Dust collecting on her pinned-up hair
Frozen in time
There she sits, never aging
She haunts the small restaurant
Her clothes are off-trend
Rumors fly through the sky
“Did you ever hear about the girl who got frozen?”
“What a sad sight.”
“Did you hear about the girl who lives in delusion?”
She sits cross-legged and stares
Stuck inside her fantasy
at 23
Right when she felt the moment stop
She could hear a hairpin drop
The glass heart shattered on the white cloth
When everybody moves on
She has been left no choice but to stay there forever
At the restaurant
She was still wanted
Everything used to be right
They are sure the other girl has a wife out there
With kids and Christmas lights
But she is unaware
Frozen in time
She has been there for so long
Causing no harm minding her own business
If they got it wrong
They can’t bear witness
She will be right there waiting
Still frozen in time
